In the segment of 2000 TEU plus Maersk Sealand have secured a pair of baby panamaxes from Hansa Treuhand for a period of 5 years as of 2006 at a rate of USD 35,500 which is in line with the last dones in that size. Hapag Lloyd have chartered the 2500 TEU "Kerstin S" at a remarkable rate of USD 34,950 for the "uncommon" period of 3 years.
In the medium size between 1300 and 1900 TEU we have witnessed the lowest activity during the past weeks. Apart from a few options that have been declared we can only report the fixture of the CS 1400 type "Estetrader" which has been fixed by Maersk Sealand at a rate of USD 27,900 for a period of 2 years. This is almost the same rate a slightly faster sister vessel had obtained 4 weeks before, however for a period of 12 mos only.
Around 1000 TEU the activity, as well as the rates, have increased considerably in comparison to what we have seen last month. PONL have taken on the sisterships "Muenster and Osnabrueck" at a notable rate of USD 16,000 net for a period of 4 years. Panocean had to pay USD 15,750 for the same period for the gearless "Cape Campbell". In this size the market has stengthened by about 10 percent during the past weeks and expectations are for further rises with limited tonnage available.
