Container update 3rd December, 2004 |
In the 2000 teu plus segment, NV has fixed their four 2700 TEU newbuildings coming in 2005 ex Aker Ostsee Shipyard at a rate of USD 27,650 for a period of six years to Sinotrans. The Antje-Helen Wulf and her sister Elbwolf have been absorbed by UASC at USD 27,250 for a period of 5 years and it was reported that Lloyd Triestino respectively Evergreen took the sisters Cordelia and Lausanne for the same period at a juicy rate of USD 28,000.
In the size between 1300 and 1900 TEU, the fixture of the Scotia particularly caught the markets attention. The ship obtained a stunning rate of USD 27,350 from CP Ships
for a period of 36 months which is exactly USD 350 more what an exact sister ship just got one week earlier for the same period. CP Ships additionaly fixed the Brazilian
Express for the same period at USD 27,600, a rate not less striking than the Scotia one. The same rate has been achieved by the Owners of the Masovia with Yang Ming Line also for 36 months.
In the smaller size around 1000 TEU the deals of the sister vessels Cape Frio and Cape Ferro have to be emphasized. Both ships were fixed for 4 years at USD 16,750 with Yang Ming Line respectively TS Lines. Also the fixture of the Vega Turmalin for 3 years with MOSK at USD 16,250 was a notable fixture, emphasising the increased rates that charterers are having to pay to secure tonnage ahead.
